For the first time in our country, in the 1991-1992 academic year, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sevgi Küllü, Head of the Department of Pathology of Marmara University Faculty of Medicine, the Pathology Laboratory Program, which was decided to be opened within the body of Marmara University Vocational School of Health Services, started education with 15 students in the 1992-1993 academic year.

Degree Awarded:

Graduates who successfully complete the program are given an associate degree diploma in the field of Pathology Laboratory Technician and receive the title of Pathology Laboratory Technician.

Admission and Registration Requirements:

Students are admitted with the Higher Education Institutions Exam (YKS) Basic Proficiency Exam (TYT).

Rules on the Recognition of Prior Learning:

Students studying at our university may be exempt from some courses within the framework of certain regulations. If the course content is approved by the school administrative board and applied within the deadline, students can be exempted from the specified courses.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations:

Successful completion of all courses available in the program, obtaining a weighted GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.00.

Program Profile:

In pathology laboratories; To train technical staff who can carry out all technical services until tissue and body fluids are ready for microscopic examination, apply the developing technology, work in the establishment of new techniques, have the ability to solve problems, and use eye and hand coordination well.

University Hospitals, Training and Research Hospitals, Pathology Laboratories of Private Hospitals, Private Pathology Laboratories, Forensic Medicine Institute Pathology Laboratories, Faculty of Medicine Histology Laboratories, Molecular Pathology Laboratory, Cytogenetics Laboratory.

Transition to Higher Degree Programs:

Candidates who have successfully completed their associate degree education can continue their undergraduate education with the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS) or university exams. The programs that students can continue with the Vertical Transfer Exam are: Biology, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Biotechnology, Biotechnology and Molecular Biology, Genetics and Bioengineering, Bioengineering, Nursing, Nursing and Health Services.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading:

During the educational activities, in order to measure and evaluate the knowledge and skills of the students; Midterm and final exams, quiz exams, laboratory theoretical and practical exams are held every semester.

Graduation Requirements:

In order for students to graduate from the program, the number of course credits taken must be 130; The number of ECTS credits must be 130; The cumulative grade point average (GPA) of theoretical and practical courses must be at least 2.00.

Facilities:

Today, pathological diagnosis has an important place in the diagnosis of diseases. In this field, where advancing technology and new techniques are used, Pathology Laboratory Technicians, who are fully equipped with technical and theoretical equipment, have an important place. Considering the distribution of universities and research hospitals in the country, there is no difference between regions in finding a job.

Academic Staff:

There are 2 Assistant Professors in the Pathology Laboratory Techniques Program. In addition, instructors assigned from other programs and faculties work in the execution of the program courses.
